Terms of service
Last updated July 2, 2026. This is a draft pending legal review. By creating an account or using HaloSilver, you agree to these terms. HaloSilver is operated by SoftStackers, LLC (“we”).
HaloSilver is a scam-detection service for aging parents and other loved ones. It runs on the loved one's computer, reads on-screen text locally, and flags patterns that look like romance scams, fake tech support, or financial-pressure tactics. When something is flagged, the family member receives a plain-language alert. HaloSilver does not show the family the loved one's screen.
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding agreement to create an account. Accounts are created by a family member or caregiver (the “guardian”) acting on behalf of the person being protected (the “loved one”). The loved one does not need their own account.
HaloSilver is never installed in secret. Before adding a loved one, you must confirm one of the following is true, and it must remain true for as long as HaloSilver runs on their computer:
HaloSilver is not designed or licensed for covert monitoring of anyone who has not consented and is not under your legal guardianship or power of attorney. Using it that way is a breach of these terms and may break the law where you live. You are responsible for confirming the consent basis you select is accurate.
You agree not to:
HaloSilver is a paid subscription. New accounts include a 7-day free trial. There is no permanent free tier. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, the subscription begins and the payment method on file is charged for the then-current price. Payments are processed by Stripe. You can cancel at any time from the account area or by contacting us; cancellation stops future charges and protection continues until the end of the paid period. If a payment fails and is not resolved, protection may be paused or the account suspended. We will tell you before that happens. Except where required by law, payments already made are not refundable.
HaloSilver is one layer of protection, not a guarantee. It cannot catch every scam, and it may occasionally flag something that turns out to be harmless. It is not a substitute for ongoing conversation with your loved one about online safety, and it does not replace the judgment of a person. HaloSilver does not provide financial, legal, or medical advice. Alerts are information to help you decide what to do, not instructions or professional advice.
To the fullest extent allowed by law, HaloSilver and SoftStackers, LLC are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss resulting from a scam or fraud that HaloSilver did not detect or prevent. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim. The service is provided “as is” and “as available.”
You can remove a loved one or a device at any time from the family portal, and you can close your account by contacting us at privacy@softstackers.com. We may suspend or end an account that breaches these terms, including the consent requirement, or where required to protect the service or comply with the law. On termination, protection stops and account data is handled as described in the privacy policy.
We may update these terms as the product changes. We will update the “last updated” date above, and for material changes we will give notice through the account or by email. Continuing to use HaloSilver after a change means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the courts located there, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
